Remote Area Classification

What is remote classification and why does it matter?

Couriers charge extra fees for deliveries to remote, rural, or island locations. This page lets you upload a list of postal codes and classify them as REMOTE or ISLAND. When a shipment goes to one of these postcodes, the matching charge rules fire automatically.

How postal code matching works

Prefix match: Upload prefix 560 → matches all postcodes starting with 560 (560001, 560002, 560099…)

Exact match: Upload 560001 → only that specific postcode matches.

Longer prefixes take priority. 5600 beats 560 when both match.

Classification types
  • REMOTE — Rural or hard-to-reach land areas. Triggers REMOTE charge rules.
  • ISLAND — Island delivery. Triggers ISLAND charge rules.
  • NORMAL — Standard delivery area (default when no match is found).
File format

One postcode (or prefix) per row, with a classification column. CSV, Excel, and plain text files are accepted. The system auto-detects the column layout.

Multi-country files

Files can contain multiple country blocks. The system reads each country section separately and stores them grouped by country code.

Required columns: country_code, postal_code, classification (REMOTE/ISLAND/NORMAL)
Optional columns: match_type (EXACT/PREFIX, default: EXACT), priority (integer, default: 0)
